We're more connected to our devices than ever before. It's provided us with a lot more convenience as we have access to our contacts, apps, and games in the palm of our hands, but we still have to do our best to be mindful and safe when using them in public, especially when driving. Here in Tennessee, those in the Memphis area now will have to adhere to the new Hands Free Tennessee law, which makes it illegal to hold your phone while driving. We're here to let you know that you should be able to easily follow the law, and there are vehicles here that can help you do that.

Under the new law that took effect on July 1, 2019, those of us in Cordova, Collierville, Arlington and Germantown, TN along with Memphis now cannot hold a cellphone or mobile device with any part of the body, write, read or send any text-based communications, reach for a device that requires the driver to no longer be seated behind the wheel or restrained by a seat belt, plus you cannot record or broadcast, or watch any media while driving. The only time you can use your phone with your hands is if you're reporting an emergency to the authorities.

These are common sense and simple to follow. You're allowed to use your phone's GPA so long as it is mounted on the dashboard, windshield or center console and voice-to-text technology and hands-free devices are allowed. Violating the law is a first-time $50 fine and the fees can go up the more you're in violation. There were many distracted driver incidents in Tennessee in recent years, but now with the technology offered on the likes of new Toyota vehicles in our showroom, it should be less. That's because you can integrate your device for hands-free use via Bluetooth® or the touch display, while also being able to have the same operating system as your phone with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ available. Additionally, some Toyota vehicles feature head-up display which puts important information in front of you on the windshield so you can see it while focusing on the road.

We want all drivers to practice safe driving, even when using advanced hands-free technology. No call or text is worth the danger of a collision. If you'd like to see this technology up close, contact us at Wolfchase Toyota and we'd be happy to help you today!
